Wimbledon Afternoon Tea Helps Raise Vital Funds For Local Cancer Centre

Sutton Coldfield residents attended an exclusive Wimbledon afternoon tea event at Cookes Furniture to raise more than £1,000 for a local charity.

The Midlands store invited the local community to join them in-store at Edward’s Restaurant on Thursday 7th July to raise money for the Cancer Support Centre in Sutton Coldfield.

For a donation customers enjoyed unlimited fizz, finger sandwiches, coffee and cake with all proceeds going to the charity. With Wimbledon in full swing Cookes also offered complimentary strawberries and cream as part of the afternoon tea.

Over the years, the store has raised more than £5,000 for the charity, hosting gala dinners, afternoon teas and other fundraising events.

The Cancer Support Centre, based on Lindridge Road, works alongside local health services, hospices and other cancer charities to provide people affected by cancer and their carers with access to support, information and complementary therapies at every stage of their cancer journey. The centre has been operating since 1999 when it began as a fortnightly evening Relaxation and Support Group and has since grown to offer its services five days a week.

Vanessa Hoe, marketing director at Cookes Furniture, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Andy Murray became Wimbledon champion again and of our great result too, raising over £1,000 at our own Wimbledon charity event. We’d like to thank everyone that came along, the turnout was fantastic as always and this year given that the afternoon tea was in line with the famous British tennis tournament made it even more exciting. We have always supported the Cancer Support Centre and will continue to do so as we really admire all the wonderful work they do for people affected by cancer.”
