National Bed Month
March marks National Bed Month, a UK-wide campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of good sleep and the role a supportive, comfortable bed plays in our overall wellbeing. As the seasons begin to shift and we look ahead to lighter mornings and a fresh start for spring, it’s the perfect time to take stock of our sleep habits and ask an important question: is your bed really giving you the rest you deserve?
We spend around a third of our lives in bed, yet it’s something many of us rarely think about until we start waking up with aches, pains or feeling less than refreshed. National Bed Month is a timely reminder that quality sleep isn’t a luxury - it’s essential for our physical health, mental wellbeing and day-to-day energy.
What is National Bed Month?
National Bed Month is an annual awareness campaign held every March in the UK, created to highlight the importance of sleep and the impact a good-quality bed has on our health and wellbeing. Led by industry organisations such as The Sleep Council and the National Bed Federation, the campaign encourages people to think about their sleep environment, check whether their mattress is still providing the right support, and make positive changes that lead to better rest.
Why Sleep Matters More Than You Think?
Sleep is just as essential to our health as eating well and staying active. While we often sacrifice rest in busy daily life, consistently poor sleep can affect far more than just how tired we feel.
Quality sleep supports:
- Physical recovery
- Helps strengthen the immune system.
- Plays a vital role in maintaining heart health.
- Allows the brain to process information, regulate emotions and improve concentration.
Lack of proper rest can lead to:
- Low mood
- Reduced productivity
- Ongoing aches and pains – particularly if you’re mattress isn’t offering the right support
Quite simply, better sleep doesn’t just improve your nights; it improves your days too.
Is Your Bed Supporting You?
Your bed should leave you feeling rested and refreshed — not stiff, achy or tired before the day has even begun. If you’re waking up with back or shoulder pain, noticing dips or sagging in your mattress, or simply sleeping better elsewhere, it could be a sign your bed is no longer giving you the support it once did. Most mattresses should be replaced every 7–8 years, yet many of us hold onto them for much longer.
National Bed Month is the perfect time to reassess whether your current bed is still meeting your needs. After all, the right level of comfort and support can make a noticeable difference to both your sleep quality and overall wellbeing.
How to Support Your Bed This Spring!!
