Sold out afternoon tea for local cancer charity raises £1300

Sutton Coldfield residents attended a festive afternoon tea event at Cookes Furniture to raise more than £1300 for Breast Friends, a cancer support charity in Sutton Coldfield.

The Midlands store invited the local community to join them in-store at Edward’s Restaurant to enjoy afternoon tea with a complimentary glass of mulled wine and Christmas Carols from the Sutton Coldfield Chamber Choir.

Vanessa Hoe, marketing director at Cookes Furniture, says: “We are delighted that the Sutton Coldfield Chamber Choir were able to join us in support of Breast Friends. The spectacular sound of the choir really evoked the feeling of Christmas in store making our festive afternoon tea for Breast Friends a really special occasion.

"Tickets for the event sold out in record time highlighting how much support this wonderful charity has at such a local level. We are thrilled to have raised £1,300 for Breast Friends going towards all of their fantastic work supporting woman with cancer. We are delighted to continue supporting Breast Friends in 2017."

Breast Friends, a support group based at Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, also celebrated its 20th anniversary at the event. The charity is run by volunteers who have all been diagnosed with breast cancer and aims to help local women with cancer through a difficult time by offering friendship, support, emotional and practical help.
